17 January Lecture by Elizabeth Wall "My Work and other Animals" Dazzling animal Art Quilts. Venue is at All Hallows.
This was an excellent start to a New Year and to a new ,warm, welcoming site. Elizabeth Wall gave an amusing and inspiring review of the work she does now. She uses fabrics and free machining to produce beautiful panels. Recent commissions have been ecclesiastical.
Without a doubt we should have a workshop.
21 February Workshop with Monica Selway "Origami for Embroidery" Learn how to paint and handstitch tissue paper. All Hallows.
The first workshop in our new location was led by Monica Selway, using origami techniques on painted tissue. Playing with colour is always fun, the hard part was folding the squares into complex origami shapes. Monica led us through this skilfully, we all experienced the AHHH! moment when the paper suddenly folded itself. We learned more about construction and embellishment, finally producing pieces which pleased and intrigued. A lovely day for all.

This was an excellent lecture. Barbara Howell showed Celtic inspirations and some of the intricate, glowing cushions and hangings that are her response to shapes and colours seen in products of the time. It was easy to be tempted by the range of unusual fabrics and hand-dyed threads that were available. Her latest book is a gem of designs and ideas for your own experiments

October 6 2007 Branch AGM followed by a talk `Embroidery and Art in the community` with Norma Heron. Competition `Traditions Ancient and Modern` Unitarian Church, Ullet Road
Jean Mather receiving the trophy for her embroidery based on windows.
Norma Heron gave an inspiring lecture on her work with Arts for Health and other commissions. Stories of her meeting the public were very interesting, as were the affectionate tales of work with school-children. One of her major hangings can be seen in the foyer of the Liverpool Women`s Hospital,"The Pool of Life", showing details of the busy port of Liverpool.

We had a wonderful day in Liverpool Town Hall on the 19th April. Delegates were welcomed from all over the North west to hear inspirational lectures from Rachael Howard and Alice Kettle. The setting was superb and the catering excellent, providing a great atmosphere for all the delegates.
The Christmas party 2008, was in the lovely church hall on Ullet Rd. George tended a roaring fire for us, there were stalls, exhibitions and a lovely tea laid out. Ex-chairman, Gillian Roberts received a gift and flowers after the end of her three year term . She also gained the prize in the Christmas card competition. June Hodgkiss accepted the Kathleen Hooper trophy for the best piece of traditional embroidery.

We had a wonderful day with Alison, who turned up on the train despite flooding in her home area.We saw some of her own work which was stunning and she was fascinating to listen to. On the day,she helped students to compose and stitch collage using found objects and ephemera. We worked on stitched evocative pieces using a wide materials vocabulary. This was a great course. Alison led us through a selection process of the objects we had brought with us and made us think about what we were trying to express. She also made us think about colour and how to progress a design. We also burnt things with a heat gun, great fun!
Here is Alison with one of her pieces. She has promised to return next November to do a Book making course and we are looking forward to this. Some more of the pieces produced on the day are on the workshop page.
