Cherrilyn visited us on the 20th March and showed us how her work had developed through her interest in clothes. She showed us lots of interesting creations involving dissolving and vanishing fabrics and delicate lace-like garments. She also told us lots of stories about her background in Textiles and gave us a very interesting afternoon. We asked her to be the judge of the new colour competion which Edna Billison's family had gifted to the Guild in her memory, which she very kindly did for us, commenting on the high standard of entries.

We had an excellent day working with Barbara who was very patient and helpful. The new venue at All Hallows was good, with lots of space and enough tables for everyone to spread out.
A great variety of designs emerged, all interesting, and very different despite using the same technique. It was a very enjoyable and absorbing day.

On the 18th July we were visited by Diane Gaffney who has collected and sold beautiful Batik fabrics for many years. She filled the hall with yards and yards of wondrous waxed fabrics and associated tools and enthralled us all with her broad knowledge of her subject. Her many visits to the East have helped her understand both the methods of production and also the lives of the people who live there, and she gave an excellent talk on her collection.
This is a beautiful Tjap or metal stamp for putting patterns in wax onto the cloth. They are works of Art in their own right and the metalwork is exquisite. Traditional motifs are still being used.
Another stunning fabric with traditional patterns and colours.

Some of the items produced on the day course with Alison, including, top left, her bra, a stunning creation made from collected papers and meaningful odds and ends.

We had a few changes to the committee with Ruby Porter standing down from her outings organiser post which she has done for many years. Gill Roberts and Elsie Watkins have also stepped down. Sarah Lowes has taken over as secretary. All the new appointments were seconded and people will be taking over as soon as possible We proposed that Ruby Porter and Joyce Whitfield should become 'Friends of the Guild' in recognition of their many years of excellent service to this branch. They are much valued members of the Guild.
After the business side of the meeting, we had an excellent talk by Pauline Rushton about the legendary shopper- Mrs Tinne. Pauline has been working on the huge collection of clothes donated to the Museum for years and seems to know the family in detail. The talk was most interesting and created a picture of a wealthy woman with a lot of free time and an overwhelming interest in shopping. The background of the family was explained during the lecture and really brought this woman to life. We thoroughly enjoyed Pauline's talk and the slides she showed and we were most grateful to her for giving us this opportunity to learn about this emminent shopaholic.
